The Estate
An 1850 mas, reimagined for today
Behind its white façades and century-old plane trees, Mas Rabinel was comprehensively restored in 2017 — joinery, wiring, plumbing, exterior walls. Seventeen hectares in a single block, fenced and irrigable, thirty minutes from Montpellier and its international airport: a configuration that has become rare in the Petite Camargue.
The residence
The glass roof opens the dining room onto the courtyard and its fountain. A library furnished with leather armchairs, a Provençal kitchen built around the range cooker, dual-aspect reception rooms: the main house unfolds across three en-suite bedrooms.
The guest accommodation
Around the mas, the longère offers four further bedrooms, complemented by a self-contained gîte and the Mistral studio. Nine bedrooms in all, each with a full bathroom and reversible air conditioning: family, friends and guests all sleep on the estate, without ever encroaching on the main house.
The Orangery

Country of black bulls and white horses
Le Cailar counts twelve manades — the bull and horse herds of the Camargue — and calls itself the capital of the Petite Camargue. Black bulls and Camargue horses, born bay and turning white only around their fifth year, graze freely right up to the estate's own fields.
The village lives by its votive festivals, its abrivado through the streets and its course camarguaise, where the raseteur snatches a rosette from between the bull's horns and the bull goes home alive to its herd. The arenas of Nîmes and their feria are twenty-five minutes away, Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer forty-five.
The estate belongs to this country: its arenas, its stables, its 120 m² caretaker's house, and sixteen hectares where you meet the neighbourhood's animals as often as your own.
The Art of Living
Living among the fields
At first light the mist lifts off the fields and the horses go out to the paddock; at dusk, flocks of starlings sweep over the pasture. The estate is not visible from any road: you reach it down an avenue of plane trees, and the silence begins at the gate.
The name 'Rabinel' comes from the 'rabinées' lands — scorched by the southern sun. Vineyards in the 19th century, orchards in the 1960s, grazing land for the past fifty years: the estate traces the agricultural history of the Camargue.
And yet everything lies close at hand: Montpellier, with its international airport and TGV station, thirty minutes away; Nîmes twenty-five minutes away, Arles a little further still; the Mediterranean beaches just twenty minutes away. Fibre-optic broadband serves the estate.
